According to Travis Kelce‘s dad, a fortnight passed before Taylor Swift and the NFL player announced their engagement on Tuesday. The news sent fans, media, and celebrities alike into a frenzy over the latest development in the couple’s modern storybook romance.
“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed Kelce told ABC News 5 Cleveland. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.” Amid the anticipation, the elder Kelce advised his son: “You know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.” Swift’s father, Scott Swift, echoed the sentiment.
According to the outlet, Travis proposed at a garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” said his father, who added the couple FaceTimed close family members to share the happy news.
Ed said he watching a Philadelphia Eagles practice when he got the call. Afterwards, his father asked Travis when they would go public with the engagement. “It’s was kinda funny, about a week ago, I asked Travis, ‘So when are you going to announce the engagement?’” Ed recalled. “He said, ‘Whenever Taylor says so.’”

“To just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other. It’s truly kinda neat,” said Kelce’s father. “They’re just two young people very much in love.”
After two years of dating, Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the pair wrote in a joint post on Instagram, which featured a carousel of photos featuring the couple ensconced in flowers and foliage. The celebratory post was fittingly set to the Tortured Poets Department deep cut, “So High School.”
