Tinashe has announced her eighth studio album ‘Popstar’ and shared its latest single ‘Crash Out’ – watch the video below.
The Kentucky-born R&B singer will release the 16-track record on September 25 via Nice Life and Atlantic Records, and it is available to pre-order here.
She has already shared the lead single ‘Too Easy’, and now fans have another taste of the album in the form of ‘Crash Out’, a laid-back but confrontational new track produced by Couros.
“I’m about to lose it, but I don’t really care no more,” Tinashe sings over the track’s minimal, snapping beat. It is accompanied by a dance-heavy video directed by 91 Rules, and you can check that out below, as well as the ‘Popstar’ album artwork.
‘Popstar’ will follow her seventh studio album, ‘Quantum Baby’, which was released in August 2024 and included the viral single ‘Nasty’.
That track became Tinashe’s first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to top the US Rhythmic Airplay chart after inspiring a widespread dance trend online.
‘Quantum Baby’ also featured the original version of ‘No Broke Boys’, which was later reworked with producer Disco Lines and became another viral hit. It was also nominated for International Song Of The Year at this year’s BRIT Awards.
In a three-star review of ‘Quantum Baby’, NME wrote: “‘Quantum Baby’ proves that the playfulness of ‘Nasty’ wasn’t a one-time thing, packed with moments that feel as cheeky and lovesick as her comeback track.”
“Songs like ‘No Simulation’ and ‘Red Flags’ bring back her ethereal, brooding signature sound, too, while others serve as little pick-me-ups for when you need to switch on. But, this record doesn’t weld these two sides of Tinashe successfully. There’s still a way to go before she finds her sweet spot, but this is a fun stepping stone along the way.”
Tinashe also featured on Charli XCX’s 2024 remix album, ‘Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat’, joining her for a reworked version of ‘B2b’.
She is due to play a DJ set at Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party next month, before appearing at All Things Go festival in Columbia, Maryland on September 27 – two days after ‘Popstar’ is released.
