Tina Knowles will embark on a nine-city tour this spring in support of her upcoming memoir titled Matriarch, out on April 22.
The book launch will take place in Washington, D.C. on April 30 with former First Lady Michelle Obama sitting down with Knowles as the event’s moderator. “I’m still pinching myself that our Forever First Lady @michelleobama is kicking it off with me,” wrote Knowles in an Instagram announcement of the tour, while teasing, “more fabulous moderator news is coming soon!” The author and business woman added, “I can not wait to share my story in hopes of inspiring you to explore your own journey.”
The tour, Matriarch: An Evening with Tina Knowles, Family and Friends, will see Knowles also stop in Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, New Orleans, Toronto, Chicago, and Brooklyn, before heading overseas for London. Tickets for the U.S. dates will be available March 21 at 10 am local time here, while tickets for the Toronto and London stops go on sale the same day at 2pm GMT here.
According to a synopsis of Matriarch, Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, will chronicle her story as a “precocious, if unruly, little girl” from Galveston, Texas, and her journey through “grief and tragedy, creative and romantic risks and turmoil, the nurturing of superstar offspring and of her own special gifts.”
The memoir is further detailed as “a multigenerational family saga that carries within it the story of America—and the wisdom that women pass on to each other, mothers to daughters, across generations. ”
Beyoncé, Knowles’ eldest daughter, shared a sweet message to her mother in support of the memoir. “Mama, I couldn’t be prouder,” wrote Beyoncé on social media. “My love for you goes beyond what I can say. You put your heart into this book. I’m happy for you to share some of the stories that shaped you into who you are. To know you is to love you. But please don’t spill too much Mama Tea.” The Cowboy Carter star is set to begin her own tour this April in support of her Grammy-winning album.
Knowles’ “bonus daughter,” Kelly Rowland, also shared her anticipation for Matriarch. “I can’t wait til everyone gets their hands on it!” she posted on Instagram. “They will be inspired, they will connect, they will laugh, they will def shed some tears, and bond with you over the intimate details you have shared! I’m so proud of you!”
