These are the biggest songs and albums of 2025 so far

The biggest songs and albums of 2025 so far in the UK have been revealed – check out the lists below.

The Official Charts shared the two top 40 run-downs today (Wednesday April 2). NME Cover star Lola Young‘s viral breakout hit ‘Messy’ has come at Number One on the biggest tracks list.

It has racked up 597,000 chart units in the first quarter of 2025 alone, with 775,000 in total since its release last summer. The single entered the top 10 for the first time over Christmas. In January, ‘Messy’ hit Number One on these shores – where it stayed for four consecutive weeks.

The Number Two spot on the UK’s biggest songs of 2025 so far list is occupied by ‘APT.’ – the collaborative track by Bruno Mars BLACKPINK’s Rosé. The single shifted 564,000 chart units in Q1 of this year, and is also the most-streamed track of 2025 so far (71.58million plays).

Mars earned a second spot on the list with his Lady Gaga team-up ‘Die With A Smile’, which appears at Number Four. Additionally, Gaga took the at Number 27 placing with her ‘Mayhem’ single ‘Abracadabra’.

Completing the top five is Gracie Abrams’ chart-topping song ‘That’s So True’ (Number Three), with 512k chart untis, and ‘The Days’ by Bolton-based singer-songwriter and producer Chrystal (Number Five), with 375k chart units.

Elsewhere, Chappell Roan makes two appearances in the top 10 with ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ (Number Seven) and ‘Pink Pony Club’ (Number Nine). The latter gave the singer her first UK Number One single last month – five years after the song’s initial release.

Topping the UK’s biggest albums of 2025 so far list is Sabrina Carpenter‘s ‘Short N’ Sweet’, which has earned 196,000 chart units this year alone. The record has racked up a total of 569,000 since its release last August.

Carpenter’s sixth studio effort spent four weeks at Number One in the UK overall – including two this year. It previously came in as the third-biggest album of 2024.

Sam Fender has landed at Number Two with his third album ‘People Watching’. Back in February, the singer-songwriter earned the biggest UK opening week for a British act since Harry Styles’ ‘Harry’s House’.

The LP is now the biggest album of the year so far by a British act, having registered 142,400 chart units. ‘People Watching’ is also the biggest seller overall and the biggest physical release of the year to date, with over 100,000 copies sold across all physical formats.

Ed Sheeran‘s ‘+–=÷× (Tour Collection)’ follows at Number Three. SZA‘s ‘SOS’ and Roan’s ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’ are at Number Four and Five, respectively. The latter gave the singer her first UK Number One album last summer – almost a year after its first release.

Speaking to NME at the BRIT Awards 2025 last month, Lola Young reflected on the huge success of ‘Messy’. “I’m just taking it all in my stride and taking each day as it comes. I’m really proud of the song,” she said.

“I think it’s the idea that you don’t have to be this thing that stereotypers want women to be. It’s not even just that though, because everyone can feel like they’re not enough for somebody. ‘I want to be me, is that not allowed?’ – that’s a great lyric! I’m very proud of it and it feels like it’s resonating with people on a wider scale [than I expected].”
