‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ was given a four-star review from NME and described as “a fitting – and intriguing – swansong”.

“Though ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ has plenty of his usual moody synth-pop, it’s also speckled with experimentation: he pulls off throbbing Brazilian funk on ‘São Paulo’ and flirts with Kanye-style chipmunk soul on ‘Niagara Falls’,” it read. “If this is a swansong for The Weeknd, it’s a fitting one. Tesfaye is pushing forward before he exhausts the collective fascination with his alter ego, and that’s no small achievement.”

The nods to the album signalling the end of a chapter for Tesfaye relate to his recent comments where he said that he plans to retire his famous moniker.

Earlier today it was reported that Lana Del Rey appears as a hidden feature on the track ‘The Abyss’ and, although she remains uncredited on the song, her signature vocals can be heard on the stripped-back track.

She is just one of a handful of collaborations on the album, with other appearances on the tracklist coming from Travis Scott, Future, Florence + the Machine, Playboi Carti and Anitta. It is worth noting that the previously-released single ‘Dancing In The Flames’ is noticeably left out from the final tracklist too.

The record was delayed by the singer out of respect for the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires. Last week he also took to social media to announce the cancellation of his one-night-only concert at the Rose Bowl in California, scheduled for January 25.

In May, the record will be accompanied by a feature-length film of the same name, starring The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. It has been described as “an extension” of the album.
