The Temptations and Princess Cruises Celebrate 60th Anniversaries

Two legends are celebrating diamond anniversaries together this year: Princess Cruises (aka “The Love Boat”) and The Temptations. And fans are welcome to join in the festivities when Princess sets sail on its 14-day 60th Anniversary Mexican Riviera Voyage on Dec. 6, 2025. Also on board for a special performance will be The Temptations, who are marking the 60th anniversary of the release of their signature hit — and the group’s first No. 1 — “My Girl.”

Serving as host for the 60th anniversary cruise will be Jill Whelan, who portrayed the character Vicki Stubing on The Love Boat television series. In her role as Princess Cruises Celebrations Ambassador, Whelan was on hand Saturday (Jan. 4) on board the Discovery Princess to announce the special sailing. And helping Whelan kick off the cruise line’s diamond anniversary year aboard the Los Angeles-docked Discovery Princess were The Temptations, who performed “My Girl.”

Prior to the performance, Whelan described the upcoming voyage as a “trip down memory lane” as she recalled that The Temptations appeared as themselves on an episode of The Love Boat 40 years ago. During that episode, the group premiered its No. 2 R&B hit, “Treat Her Like a Lady.”  Of the group’s timeless legacy, she added, “The Temptations have also been responsible for spreading messages of love over 60 years. And what is better than that.”

On hand for the performance were Temptations members Otis Williams, Terry Weeks, Tony Grant and Jawan M. Jackson; Ron Tyson was absent. Before performing, original founding member Williams noted that 60 years after its release, “My Girl” has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify and that the group “is still doing” their thing. Noted fellow member Jackson after the performance, “We’re so excited to set sail and celebrate the 60th anniversaries of Princess and ‘My Girl’.”

In commemorating Princess’s diamond anniversary, December’s Mexican Riviera outing aboard the Royal Princess (Dec. 6-20) will recreate the maiden voyage of the line’s Princess Patrica six decades ago. Revisiting many of those same destinations, the Royal Princess will depart from the Port of Los Angeles with an itinerary including two overnight stays in Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, as well as visits to Loreto, Manzanilla and Mazatlan. Additional music and other special guests plus various anniversary festivities will be announced soon.
