The Temper Trap announce ‘Lucky Dimes’, their first new single in nine years

The Temper Trap have announced new single ‘Lucky Dimes’, their first new single in nine years – check out all the details below.

Taking to Instagram, the band shared a fuzzed-out clip of a blue screen that dissolved into flashes of the members playing, as hazy beat dropped.

In the post, they revealed that ‘Lucky Dimes’ is set for release tomorrow (August 13) – you can pre-save it here – and shared the world premiere times across different time zones, which you can check out below.

It comes after the Australian indie band hinted at a return earlier this week, nodding to their lengthy hiatus and teasing: “Did you miss us?”. They also shared a montage of them performing over the year, soundtracked by their breakthrough hit ‘Sweet Disposition’.

The 2008 track appeared on their debut album ‘Conditions’, and has long been considered an indie anthem. Upon its release, it reached the Top 10 in charts in the UK, Ireland, and Belgium, and to date has accrued over 700,000,000 streams on Spotify.

As well as being extensively covered, the track’s popularity extended to TV and film, and cemented it’s place in pop culture after being used on the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack. Last year marked the 15th anniversary of the song, and in celebration, the band shared an acoustic rendition of the iconic hit and announced a limited edition vinyl reissue.

The milestone also prompted to band to take X/Twitter and reflect on the song’s impact, saying: “We never knew when we were in our little studio making these songs that they would still be connecting with people so many years later. Thank you.”

The band’s track ‘Love Lost’ was also sampled by the late rapper Mac Miller on his 2011 mixtape ‘I Love Life, Thank You’, with the track going on to appear on a posthumous re-release of the LP in 2022.

Earlier this year, it emerged that Taylor Swift once asked to band to handwrite the lyrics to the song for Harry Styles‘ birthday when the pair were in a relationship.

Lead singer Dougy Mandagi recalled finding out that Styles had lyrics to ‘Sweet Disposition’ tattooed, before pointing out that the singer, who was in One Direction at the time, got the words wrong on his tattoo.

“At the Aria Awards, Swift came into their our green room with a piece of paper at the ready for the request. She goes, ‘Can you write the lyrics for my boyfriend, it’s his birthday?’” Mandagi said. “So, then the dilemma was, do I write the right lyrics or do I write the wrong lyrics? I can’t remember which one I wrote.”
