The Last Dinner Party have announced a ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ film, following their debut album of the same name.

The film will arrive on September 12, and the five-piece have invited fans to watch it with them at the premiere in Soho, London – and you can register here for the chance to attend. If you don’t get tickets, you can view it on YouTube at 8pm the same day instead.
They announced the news on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ the film, coming September 12th. We cordially invite you to feast your eyes upon it with us at our London Premiere in Soho.”
The band formed in 2021, and have enjoyed an impressive rise since releasing their debut single ‘Nothing Matters’ in April 2023. Last December, they were awarded the Rising Star BRIT Award ahead of Caity Baser and Sekou, and shortly after won the BBC Sound of 2024 poll.
‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ came out on February 2, and hit Number One in the UK, becoming the debut album to sell the most copies in its first week in nine years, after ‘Communion’ by Years & Years. It’s been nominated for the Mercury Prize, too.

In a four-star review of the album, NME said that it “shines when it indulges in its thrilling expressions of intimacy, desire and regret,” adding: “Some may choose to posit the band’s success as an antidote to the intense scrutiny – about their rise, appearance and decision to make music without a ‘serious’ intention – they’ve received in their early career. But take all of that away, and you’re still left with fantastic songs that are easy to embrace and return to. It’s hard to miss all the things they’re doing right.”
Despite all the fervour around them, Aurora Nishevci, who plays keyboard, piano and synth, told NME in December that the band were trying to avoid words like ‘hype’ and ‘buzzy band’, and instead “Just focus on what grounds us: playing, writing and rehearsing our music.”
Bassist Georgia Davies added: “We took our sweet time releasing anything, which was somewhat intentional. It was about the experience in its entirety, rather than instant recognition from singles.”
When NME caught up with The Last Dinner Party again at Lollapalooza earlier this month, Nishevci revealed that they’re already writing songs for their second album, with Lizzie Mayland, who’s on vocals, guitar and flute, hinting at a steampunk-inspired vibe. She also said: “We all went shopping a lot in Japan and I feel like that’s really changed the aesthetic.”
The Last Dinner Party are set to appear at Reading & Leeds this weekend, playing the former on Saturday (August 24) and the latter the following day (August 25). You can find any remaining tickets to the festival here (Reading) and here (Leeds).
