The Killers Replace Doja Cat as Austin City Limits Festival Headliner

Singer drops off lineup at Texas fest due to promotional duties tied to her upcoming LP Vie: “I cannot give you guys the show you deserve within this time frame”

The Killers will serve as replacement headliners at the Austin City Limits Festival in October after Doja Cat dropped off the lineup on Friday.

The singer, who was scheduled to lead the Sunday lineups on October 5 and 12 at the long-running Texas fest, announced on social media Friday that new album and promotional duties tied to her upcoming LP Vie made preparing for the gigs too difficult. (Vie is due out September 26, one week before what would have been her first weekend at ACL.)

“Unfortunately, I will not be performing at Austin City Limits this year,” Doja Cat wrote. “When I made the commitment I didn’t know exactly when Vie would be released. I’ve been working on finalizing the album, making videos, taking the time to put together an album campaign that I am really excited about, and it’s become clear to me that I cannot give you guys the show you deserve within this time frame.”

The singer added, “Thank you to the ACL team for their support and I hope to see you all again soon when the time is right. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity.”

Soon after Doja’s announcement, ACL organizers quickly revealed that the Killers — who spent the summer on their own tour as well as headlining Montreal’s Osheaga and Milwaukee’s Summerfest — would hop in to serve as the replacement headliner for both Sunday night sets at Zilker Park. The Killers last played the Austin festival in 2017.

This year’s ACL Fest also boasts headliners Sabrina Carpenter, Hozier, Luke Combs, and the Strokes, as well as Cage the Elephant, Doechii, Rilo Kiley, Maren Morris, Empire of the Sun, Mk. Gee, and more.
