Teddy Swims shares tearful reaction to Best New Artist nomination at the Grammys: “I can’t stop crying”

Teddy Swims has shared his tearful reaction to his Grammy nomination in the Best New Artist category.

Yesterday (November 8), Swims shared a video of himself, telling fans that he “can’t stop crying” upon watching the livestream of the nominations announcement.

The clip shows the singer-songwriter calling his father to break the good news. “Look what you’ve done, baby,” Swims’ father says, holding back tears. “It’s amazing.” Swims joins fellow nominees Benson Boone, Doechii, Chappell Roan, Khruangbin, Raye, Sabrina Carpenter, and Shaboozey in the category.

“I’m so proud of you, baby. You made it all happen, son. I’m proud of you. Yup, you did it. That’s cool as shit, son.”

“Daddy I love you. You’re the first person I’ll always call! I cant stop crying!” he wrote in the Instagram post.

“Thank you for letting your boy pursue this dream! To be gettin this news with my best pals in the world theres no better feeling! I love you guys so much! Theres no better team and no better label on the planet! This is the biggest honor in music!”

“And to be nominated this year as best new artist amongst what I think is the best freshman class in history is an absolute privilege!”

“To all you sweet sweet people reading this, thank you so much for believing in and pushing a fat boy from Conyers, Georgia!” he added. “I love you sooooo much! It’s a good day to be us!”

In August, Swims spoke to NME about being nominated best new artist award at the 2024 VMAs – which eventually went to Roan: “This is a huge year for music. This is a massive year for music, man. This is a huge year for artists coming up and just to be one of the rookies amongst some of these huge rookies that are coming up, I’m OK.”

Come January, Swims will release his sophomore album ‘I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2)’, which he’ll support in a long list of tour dates across the US next year.

Notably, the best new artist nominations of Swims’ peers, Roan and Carpenter, mean that both of them are up in all four general categories open to recording artists across genres. If either artist won that category as well as record, song and album of the year – they’d become the first to do that since Eilish’s landmark sweep in 2020.

It follows last years dominance from women in music, and similarly this year’s nominations  have so far seen female artists claiming six out of the eight nominations for both album of the year and record of the year.
