Team behind Drumsheds and Printworks to open new South London venue

The team behind the London nightclubs Drumsheds and Printworks have announced they are opening a new venue in South London.

The new 2,000-capacity site will be named Corner Corner will be located in the space currently occupied by a shopping centre in Surrey Quays in Rotherhithe.

The Standard reported that the Southwark Council planning committee approved the plans for the venue and event space at a meeting on February 5. The plans were submitted by property developers British Land, in partnership with Broadwick, who say they hope the space would be available from spring 2025.

Corner Corner will take up 50,000 square feet and will overlook Canada Dock. It will serve as a ”cultural hub”, with “collaborative workspaces, live music, and food and beverage outlets”. It will also feature London’s “largest indoor urban vertical farm”, with produce being used in meals throughout the venue.

The site will play host to live music and ticketed DJ events, with plans allowing for the venue to open until 3am at weekends, subject to licensing permission, although British Land have said they do not plan to host regular late-night events.

Elsewhere, Drumsheds was recently allowed to remain open after a licence review and crowd complaints, but it has been instructed to enforce new safety measures. The Tottenham venue was reported as being at risk of losing its licence last year after a series of serious incidents at the premises.

An emergency licensing review was called for following the death of a 27-year-old man who had attended a Drumsheds event on October 12. The incident is believed to be drug-related (as per Standard). On December 7, a 29-year-old woman also died in hospital after Bicep‘s The Hydra show at Drumsheds, with police believing that it was also connected to drug use.

Printworks, meanwhile, looks set to return after closing its doors in May last year. In 2022, Southwark Council approved plans to turn it into an office block, but the Night Time Industries Association said in September that the venue had received planning consent for redevelopment.
