Taylor Swift Shows Love for Paul McCartney’s New Album: ‘Never Not Inspired’

Following the debut of Paul McCartney‘s deeply nostalgic new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, fellow singer-songwriter Taylor Swift had high praise for the solo masterpiece.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Swift shared McCartney’s post promoting the newly released record and wrote in her caption: “Never not inspired by this eternally exceptional artist.”

The Life of a Showgirl singer’s shoutout follows after McCartney recently expressed his own admiration for Swift’s work and career. During an interview on BBC Sounds in May, McCartney, 83, was asked if he would give Swift, 36, any advice given her global level of fame.

“You do see the parallel, you know the fame and the amount of fame. The worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had,” McCartney replied, before adding with a chuckle, “But I don’t think she needs any advice to tell you the truth.”

When pressed on the topic, McCartney said, “If she asked for it, I definitely would. I’m like the older brother to that generation, or more like the grandad, actually.”

As two of the most famous pop songwriters in the world, Swift and McCartney have admired each another’s work from afar over the years. In 2020, the pair sat down for Rolling Stone‘s first ever Musicians on Musicians. To prepare for the conversation, Swift delved into to McCartney III and McCartney listened to Folkore.

“I listened to your new record. And I loved a lot of things about it, but it really did feel like kind of a flex to write, produce, and play every instrument on every track,” Swift told McCartney at the time. “To me, that’s like flexing a muscle and saying, ‘I can do all this on my own if I have to.’”

In turn, McCartney said, “Well, I don’t think like that, I must admit. I just picked up some of these instruments over the years. We had a piano at home that my dad played, so I picked around on that. I wrote the melody to ‘When I’m 64’ when I was, you know, a teenager.”

Naturally, Swift replied, “Wow.”
