Taylor Swift has given her US fans a “friendly but extremely important reminder” to vote in today’s (November 5) presidential election.

The pop superstar first endorsed the Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in September, writing in a statement that “she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them”.

It reportedly led to a 500 per cent increase in voter registration, and Harris later shared she was “very proud” to have the pop star’s backing.

Now, she’s reminding fans once more to vote as polls begin to open across the US.

In a post shared to Instagram last night (November 4) Swift celebrated the end of the US leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, writing: “Just had the time of my life with 207,000 beautiful people in Indianapolis who showered us with so much love and excitement and joy… I know I’ll be looking back on this weekend and smiling because it was just like a dreamscape, all of it.”

She then added: “Thank you to everyone who came out to see us on our last 3 American shows!! And here’s a friendly but extremely important reminder that tomorrow is the US Election and your last chance to vote.”

There was speculation that the ‘Lover’ singer would appear at Harris’s final pre-election rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last night, but she ended up not being in attendance. Lady Gaga was there to perform and give a speech, saying:“For more than half of this country’s life, women didn’t have a voice. Yet we raised children, we held our families together, [and] we supported men as they made the decisions.

“But tomorrow, women will be a part of making this decision.”

Oprah Winfrey also appeared at the rally, which was held on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum. Another campaign event for Harris simultaneously took place in Pittsburgh, with Katy Perry headlining.

In Swift’s initial endorsement post on Instagram – which she shared following the first presidential debate between Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump – she said the VP was “a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos”.

She also noted that she had been made aware of the Trump campaign’s use of AI – which he claims he had no part in – to falsify her support of the former President and convicted felon’s candidacy: “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

Following Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump said the singer will “probably pay a price” for her decision. “I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” he began. “It was just a question of time. She couldn’t possibly endorse Biden… But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”

George Clooney went on to praise the endorsement as “a beautiful thing to do”, telling the Associated Press: “She’s a real phenomenon right now and it’s exciting to see all these young people really engaged in the national discourse.”

Swift joins others from the entertainment world to publicly support Harris, including Beyoncé, Charli XCX, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Megan Thee Stallion, Quavo, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, St. Vincent, Cardi B, Mumford & Sons, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Evanescence’s Amy Lee.
