Taylor Swift turned heads Wednesday night (Sept. 11) on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet, pairing a yellow plaid zip-up corset dress with black hot pants, thigh-high boots and a matching choker for a perfectly pop-punk look.
The look is straight off the runway from Dior, though the designer paired the original look with matching yellow tartan shorts instead of Swift’s solid black swap.
The pop superstar is getting a lot of fan love on social media for the vivacious look, with some pointing out that the yellow plaid is giving Clueless vibes thanks to Cher Horowitz’s iconic miniskirt-plus-blazer set in a similar pattern from the 1995 classic teen comedy. “Taylor Swift is giving gothic Cher from Clueless,” one X user wrote. “Taylor in her Clueless era,” another fan added.
Swift headed into Wednesday night’s VMAs as the night’s top nominee, with 12 nods. She’s already picked up two awards: the pre-show song of summer win for “Fortnight” with Post Malone as well as the first televised win of best collaboration for the same song. She and Malone picked up the prize together onstage, with Swift ribbing her collaborator for insisting on calling her “ma’am.”
After last week’s NFL opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens, it looks like Swift might just be in her “thigh-high boots era,” given she also wore some above-the-knee boots along with a denim corset top and jean shorts to support boyfriend Travis Kelce at the game.
