Taylor Swift Breaks Her Own Spotify Record for Most Album Pre-Saves

The streaming service will share a weekly ranked chart of pre-saved albums and EPs starting this week

The Life of a Showgirl might be the most anticipated album on Spotify, like ever. On Monday, the streaming service announced that Taylor Swift‘s 12th studio album surpassed five million pre-saves on the platform, surpassing the record held by The Tortured Poets Department.

Monday’s announcement also comes as Spotify revealed that starting Monday, it will be sharing the pre-save counts for the top 10 Countdown Pages in the app’s “Upcoming Releases” hub. The new feature — kicking off with Swift’s record-breaking pre-save numbers — will allow fans to stay up-to-date with the anticipation for albums by their favorite stars. Every Wednesday at noon ET, the platform will share the ranking of the Countdown chart for fans.

“The Upcoming Releases hub is about celebrating what’s next in music, and Countdown Charts bring a whole new level of visibility to releases that fans are most excited about,” said Spotify exec Madeleine Bennett in a press release. “By ranking the top pre-saved releases globally, we’re giving artists a powerful new way to build anticipation and connect with their biggest fans in the lead-up to release day.”

Artists with at least 5,000 active listeners in the last month will be eligible to launch Countdown Pages for upcoming albums and EPs.

To celebrate the release of Swift’s album, Spotify will host a three-day pop-up activation in New York City where fans can capture exclusive photo moments, discover Easter eggs inspired by the album, and experience the new era for Swift before the album is even out.

Few details have been unveiled about what to expect on Life of a Showgirl. However, Swift brought back Max Martin and Shellback to produce the album. “When I was on tour in Stockholm, I had Max Martin come out to the show, and I was talking to him, and I was like, ‘I just feel like we could knock it out of the park if we went back in,’” the singer said during her episode on the New Heights podcast.
