Taylor Momsen Joining Soundgarden For Halftime Show at Seattle Seahawks Season Opener

Soundgarden will take the stage for their hometown team the Seattle Seahawks’ NFC West season home opener next month with a very special guest vocalist. The group will be joined by Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen for a halftime show performance during a rematch with their vanquished Super Bowl LX foes the New England Patriots on Sept. 9.

The reigning NFL champs will be saluted by the “Black Hole Sun” icons, who will also perform at Lumen Field with one of their grunge compatriots, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, who will play the National Anthem before the game on behalf of the Washington Innocence Project. It’s a return engagement for Momsen, who has played with the band a number of times since the death of singer Chris Cornell in May 2017 at age 52.

In November of last year, Momsen subbed in for Cornell at Soundgarden’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, performing their hits “Rusty Cage” and “Black Hole Sun.” She previously sat in with them at the “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” benefit in January 2019 at the Forum in Los Angeles.

In addition to the all-star hometown rock tribute, the Seahawks announced a pregame Salute 250 Kickoff Concert featuring Luke Bryan, which will take place at 2:30 p.m. PT, three hours before kick-off.

Soundgarden recently revealed that they are mixing an album featuring the final group of songs recorded with Cornell. Drummer Cameron said the surviving members are in the process of mixing tracks recorded with producer Terry Date for what is planned as an eight-track LP. He said the songs are based on demos the group’s members began working on in 2013 and 2014 and then again in 2015 and 2016 before what would be their final tour with Cornell in 2017.
