T.O.P recently sat for an interview with NME in light of the premiere of Squid Game season 2 in December, where he plays the character Thanos. His appearance on the hit Netflix series marked his first project since he announced his departure from the entertainment industry in 2020 after he was charged with smoking marijuana at home.
Though his role on Squid Game marked his return to entertainment, T.O.P revealed that he has no “concrete ideas” about future acting projects. “What I am currently hoping to do is share with the world T.O.P – me as a musician – because I will be sharing my music [for the first time] in almost a decade,” he told NME.
The multi-hyphenate shared how being back in the studio and making music again were pivotal to his healing. “In order to quite literally live, I turned to creating music,” T.O.P shared. “That’s when I learned that, only when I was in my music [or] standing in front of the mic, I was able to breathe.”
When asked about what to expect from his return to music, T.O.P added that it was “part of my responsibility as a musician” to share what he has so far. “Over the years, I spent a lot of time really thinking about and regretting what I have done, and I spent a lot of time on self-reflection as well,” the K-pop idol explained.
“I think those years have allowed for my musical universe to change greatly. I feel that my music has become richer and expanded in size as well, so I’m quite confident that my fans will feel that I have matured musically.”
