Stevie Nicks Inspired Mckenna Grace’s ‘Very ’60s, ’70s-Inspired’ Style in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’

Stevie Nicks is entering The Hunger Games universe, but not in the way one might think.

The Fleetwood Mac singer wasn’t cast in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, but her unmistakable style helped inspire the wardrobe of Mckenna Grace’s character, Maysilee Donner. Grace revealed that Nicks was among the references on the costume team’s mood boards for the upcoming prequel, which draws heavily from the fashion of the ’60s and ’70s.

“Sunrise on the Reaping, at least [on] all the mood boards, there was Stevie Nicks,” Grace told E! News during the “Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style, Power of Panem” event in Paris on Tuesday. “It was very ’60s, ’70s-inspired.”

For a movie franchise known for turning its characters’ clothes into an important part of its cinematic world, Nicks makes for a very iconic reference. Her flowing silhouettes, layered looks and bohemian-rock aesthetic have made her one of music’s most enduring style icons, and that influence is gliding its way into Panem.

The fashion in Sunrise on the Reaping also helps distinguish the prequel from the other entries in the franchise. Grace explained that 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes looked to the 1950s for inspiration, while the original movies — starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth — featured styles that felt more contemporary.

“It’s cool because you’re not only seeing younger versions of these characters, but what Panem and the Districts would have looked like at that time period,” Grace said.

As a solo artist and member of Fleetwood Mac, Nicks has landed multiple major Billboard Hot 100 hits, including “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which peaked at No. 3 in 1981, and “Stand Back,” which reached No. 5 in 1983. Her Fleetwood Mac discography is even more formidable: The Nicks-penned “Dreams” became the band’s sole No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 1977, while her solo debut Bella Donna topped the Billboard 200 that same year.
