Stay at Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ House, With Wendy & Lisa as Your Hosts

The Minneapolis house where Prince’s character in Purple Rain resided has been transformed into a shrine for the singer and the iconic 1984 film, with the abode soon heading to AirBnb for fans to stay in.

“The Purple Rain House” will be available on the rental site for 25 one-night stays starting in October, with an added bonus: Wendy & Lisa, the Revolution members and Prince’s co-stars in the film, are serving as the house’s hosts, and the duo has curated a uniquely Prince experience for those lucky enough to grab a reservation.

“Not to brag, but we really outdid ourselves,” Wendy & Lisa say in the Airbnb listing. “The place is jammed with epic memorabilia that will give u a rare perspective into Prince’s creative process during his Purple Rain era—through the eyes of two people who lived through it (us!). And what’s a better way to crawl inside his head than listening to Prince’s personal tape collection, seeing the actual outfits he wore, and smelling his curated scent bar featuring his favorite perfumes? That, and ungodly amounts of ’80s nostalgia. You’re welcome. Let’s go crazy, shall we?”

The completely restored Minneapolis house — an experience crafted in part to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain — was the actual home that Prince’s the Kid lived in in the 1984 film, though not Prince’s actual domicile. While some rooms in the home were transformed to recapture its big-screen likeness, others were converted into museum-like Prince exhibits, including a closet filled with his actual clothes (though behind glass) and a recreation of the bathroom (clawfoot bathtub included) from the “When Doves Cry” video:

“We were lucky enough to be a part of the music scene in Minneapolis during such a pivotal era for rock music, playing with Prince in one of the most successful bands of our generation and starring alongside him in the Purple Rain film,” Wendy & Lisa added in a statement

“The Purple Rain house stands as a tribute to our dear friend Prince, the timeless character he brought to life, and the lasting impact he continues to have. We hope the space gives fans a glimpse into the eclectic world Prince created, and visitors walk away feeling a little bit closer to him as an artist and person.”

Just a word of warning for those interested in reserving the home: No pets are allowed, and you can’t throw a party.

The Purple Rain House isn’t the only notable music-related listing that Airbnb announced this week: Jeff Buckley’s childhood home in Memphis has also been transformed “in homage” to the late singer-songwriter.
