Netflix is spicing up Squid Game.
On Tuesday (March 3), the streaming giant announced the cast of the forthcoming Squid Game spin-off game show Squid Game: The VIP Challenge. In the new series, seven celebrity contests and one former Squid Game player will compete in the “already stressful, deeply unpredictable, and downright diabolical competition.” Among the newly announced competitors is none other than Scary Spice herself, Mel B.
In a post to Instagram on Tuesday, the Spice Girls singer shared the official announcement video with the caption, “Squid games are about to get REALLY Scary!” In the comments, fans are already claiming “Team Mel B” for when the show airs.
Mel B is not new to the world of reality competition shows. The former Spice Girl previously competed on Dancing With the Stars and has been a judge on The X Factor, The Masked Singer Australia and Queen of the Universe. She also did a stint as a judge on America’s Got Talent from 2013 through 2018 before stepping away in 2019 and returning to the show last year.
Outside of her reality competition news, this is a big year for Mel B: 2026 marks 30 years since Spice Girls’ iconic debut, and anniversary celebrations are under way. On Monday, the British Royal Mint announced a limited-edition commemorative coin featuring the five members’ silhouettes. In an Instagram post celebrating the coin, Mel B shared that the Spice Girls are the first female group to receive the honor.
Though fans have been speculating that the group may embark on a reunion tour this year, no official announcement has been made. But fans should not get discouraged by the lack of news: The members themselves have also hinted that they, too, are hoping to tour. In a January interview with U.K. radio show Heart Breakfast, Mel C noted that Victoria Beckham was not part of the 2019 reunion tour and said, “So she has to have that experience.”
As we await more news on the possible reunion tour, we will cheer on Mel B as she competes on Squid Game. The celebrity contestants joining Scary Spice in the competition are Ryan Serhant from Owning Manhattan; NBA champion Tristan Thompson; content creator Kristy Sarah; Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Kim Zolciak, Hannah Godwin from The Bachelor universe; and Dylan Efron, Zac Efron’s brother and recent competitor in The Traitors and Dancing With the Stars. The final contestant is Viper, a player from Squid Game season 2 who was voted in by fans to return to the competition.
Neflix has not yet announced the premiere date for Squid Game: The VIP Challenge.
