After coming under fire for his comments about the representation of same-sex couples onscreen, Snoop Dogg has made an effort to support LGBTQ+ youth on a new song, “Love Is Love.”
The track, a collaboration with former The Voice contestant Jeremy Beloate, was featured in the latest episode of Snoop’s animated children’s YouTube series, Doggyland. The song has been released in partnership with advocacy group GLAAD to celebrate Spirit Day, an annual initiative that harnesses influential voices to stand against the bullying of LGBTQ+ youth and families.
GLAAD shared a conversation between Snoop and Beloate about the track. “It’s beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is,” Snoop said in the clip. “Being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers — whatever it is, love is the key.”
He added of creating the song, “It’s teaching parenthood. It’s teaching situations that kids in the world is going through right now in a beautiful way through song, dance, melody, just trying to get more clarity on how we live and the way we live. And I felt like this music is a beautiful bridge to bringing understanding. These are things that kids have questions about so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love.”
The upbeat “Love Is Love” is geared towards kids, and was specifically written to be part of the Doggyland episode. In the episode, Beloate makes a special appearance as a puppy named Zippy while Snoop voices regular character Bow Wizzle.
“Our parents are different/ No two are the same/ But the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change,” the characters sing. “Families are special/ They are so unique/ Everybody’s got a purpose, more than what you see/ We love you, parents/ We love you so.”

In August, Snoop Dogg complained about the appearance of a same-sex couple in Disney film Lightyear during an interview on the It’s Giving… Podcast. “They move on into the space years, and as they move down the line they’re like, ‘Then, she had a baby with a woman,’” Snoop said. “Now, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman.’ Ah shit, I didn’t come in here for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”
He added in the now-deleted clip, “I’m scared to go to the movies now. Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.”
