Shooting at unofficial HARD Summer afterparty leaves two dead, six injured

A shooting at an unofficial HARD Summer afterparty in Downtown Los Angeles has left two people dead and six more injured.

The update was confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and initially reported by the KTLA news outlet. It took place at an unofficial afterparty for HARD Summer – the electronic music festival based in Los Angeles over that weekend.

In a statement to Billboard, a spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed that the afterparty event was “not related to the festival.”

As per The LA Times, the shooting happened at a “warehouse party that was part of a local gang’s ‘hood day celebration”. The LAPD, however, have not confirmed whether or not the incident was gang-related, saying that it “remains unclear” at this time.

The police arrived at the party in Downtown LA at around 11pm on Sunday (August 3), and came to shut down the event after officers in the area saw a person suspected to have a gun go inside the building.

The person in question was then arrested at the scene. When officers cleared the area, reports of shots then came in around 1am Monday morning (August 4).

When they returned to the scene, one person was found dead alongside others who had been struck by bullets. A male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and a woman hit by the gunfire later died in the hospital.

Two men remain in critical condition in the hospital after being shot at the site, and four others who were injured have been confirmed as “in stable condition” by the LAPD.

Police have not shared any description of the suspect at the time of writing, but do encourage anyone with information about the incident or the people involved to get in touch with the LAPD.

This is a developing story.
