Sheryl Crow sells Tesla in protest at Elon Musk: “You have to decide who you are willing to align with”

Sheryl Crow has sold her Tesla car in protest at the company’s CEO Elon Musk, saying “you have to decide who you are willing to align with”.

Posting on Instagram on Friday (February 14), the country star shared a video of the car being towed away from her house as she waves goodbye.

“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” she wrote. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”

She went on to explain that she had passed on the money for the car to NPR, which she noted was “under threat” from the entrepreneur, who she referred to as “President Musk”. She said she hoped NPR would continue to ensure that “the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth”.

Since Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Musk has been the head of the newly created Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and he has advocated for the defunding of NPR – National Public Radio – which he believes should operate without government assistance. “Defund NPR. It should survive on its own,” he tweeted on February 4.

Musk caused controversy at an event connected to the inauguration when he slapped his chest with his right hand and flung his arm up diagonally upwards in a gesture many have compared to a Nazi salute. Musk dismissed the criticism as “dirty tricks” and described attacks against him as “sooo tired”.

In other Crow news, she joined Ringo Starr and others at the former Beatle’s livestreamed show in Nashville last month. They played ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ together, alongside Jack White.

She has also been announced for this year’s Boston Calling Festival, along with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Luke Combs and Dave Matthews Band. The event goes down from May 23 to 25, and you can find any remaining tickets here.
