The singer has confirmed that she does “not support any candidate” running for the presidency in Colombia, after fan accounts have cropped up sharing images depicting her alongside candidates Iván Cepeda and Aida Quilcué.

“The images circulating of me supporting presidential candidates are fake,” the singer shared in a statement, per Billboard. “I do not support any candidate, nor have I authorised the use of my image in any campaign.”

The images come as the latest attempt to link Shakira to Cepeda, in particular. Earlier this year, unfounded reports claimed the musician and candidate are distantly related.

Shakira has not issued any public statements to back any particular candidate in the election.

“My commitment is to Colombia, to its democracy and to the right of every Colombian to choose freely,” she said. “My wish is for these elections to proceed transparently and in a peaceful environment for all Colombians.”

The posts in question, which appeared on X and have since been deleted, made references to Shakira’s fan community, including nods to the “Wolfpack” and “La Manada de Lobos”.

“La Manada de Lobos joins the cause for Colombia,” read the post, which showed Shakira in an image alongside Cepeda and his running mate, vice presidential candidate Aida Quilcué, as well as text reading: “Wolfpack with Pacto Histórico.” “Because @Shakira taught us that education is fundamental in combating inequality in our country.”

In other Shakira news, she joins Madonna and BTS in co-headlining the first ever World Cup Final Halftime Show.

The final will take place on Sunday July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. For the first time in World Cup history, there will be a star-studded live show during halftime – similar to that seen at the Super Bowl.

In charge of curating the inaugural performance is Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who confirmed its headliners in a recent video shared on social media.

Elsewhere, earlier this year, Shakira gave a history-making free concert to over two million fans on Copacabana Beach.
