Self Esteem explores “hope, perseverance and patience” on uplifting new single ‘If Not Now, It’s Soon’

Self Esteem has shared a new single called ‘If Not Now, It’s Soon’, which explores themes of “hope, perseverance and patience”. Check it out below.

The new track was shared today (March 25) and marks the third single to be taken from Self Esteem’s upcoming album ‘A Complicated Woman’. It follows on from the singer – whose real name is Rebecca Lucy Taylor – sharing the lead single ‘Focus Is Power’ and the sultry follow-up track ‘69’.

Now, the latest preview of the album sees Taylor look back at her rise to fame, as well as the moments of hypersexuality, booze and self-destruction that shaped her experiences and led to her becoming the person she is today.

You wonder who it was who made the choices in that town/ Cause that was just still you/ You’re the sum of all these odds/ And we can work together to become who’s in your heart,” she sings in the optimistic verse, building up to the joyful chorus.

If not now, it’s soon/ And whatever is right for you/ We’ll guide you through/ Take it back to the beginning.”

Discussing the inspiration behind the track, Taylor said: “Personally, you have to wait and one day you’ll get somewhere less painful. But the world will hopefully get somewhere less painful too. It’s about hope, perseverance and patience!”

Check it out below.

As well as sharing the new single today, Taylor has also confirmed a new run of UK and Ireland tour dates, set to kick off this autumn. A total of 14 new shows have been confirmed, kicking off with a stop at the O2 Academy in Birmingham on September 15.

From there, shows in Edinburgh, Dublin and Newcastle are lined up, as are two nights in Glasgow, two in Manchester and two in Bristol.

Two back-to-back stops at the O2 Academy in Brixton are planned for October 9 and 10, and the tour wraps up with shows in Brighton and Sheffield on October 17 and 18 respectively.

Tickets go on sale this Friday (March 18) at 10am, although those who pre-order the new album can get access to the pre-sale. Visit here for tickets.

Taylor announced ‘A Complicated Woman’ on social media back in January, and the album is set for release on April 25 via Polydor.

It is set to centre around the theme of taking back control of your own life, all while exposing the excess and additional labour that women are expected to undertake. It will also feature appearances by Moonchild Sanelly, Nadine Shah, and Life Without Buildings‘ Sue Tompkins.

The album is the follow-up to the singer’s BRIT and Mercury Prize-nominated 2021 album ‘Prioritise Pleasure’.

For that album, Self Esteem was featured on the cover of NME and spoke about what inspired the tracks. “I’ve done years of therapy, done plenty of work on myself, and read every fucking book you can fucking read about it, and it comes back down to true self-acceptance and self-love,” she said.

“It’s the answer to everything, but it’s still something that you’re meant to not do. I go down this road a lot, and I get quite upset. But then I think, no – just keep in my little part of the world, my group, accepting myself, loving myself, and then make my little silly songs and do my little silly dances. And if someone can learn from that and pass it forward, at least I’m doing something?”
