Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco Share Intimate Home Performance of ‘I Said I Love You First’ Tracks

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are giving fans a more intimate portrait of I Said I Love You First with VEVO in a 13-minute Extended Play video filmed from the home where the stars made the album.

The video splices clips of Blanco and Gomez discussing working together on the project in the kitchen of the home, with videos of the pair performing the tracks from different spaces inside the home. The short film opens with Blanco and Gomez performing “Sunset Blvd” from a bedroom while joking about the specifics of their first date, driving in a convertible. “You’re a terrible driver,” jokes Blanco. “We’re both terrible drivers.”

After “Sunset Blvd,” the couple discussed their taste in music and how they were able to support each other through the music-making process (and in their relationship.) “It’s so easy for us to do a thing together, like a project, because we speak the same language, both in music,” Blanco starts, before Gomez interrupts: “I think your palette is a lot more diverse and, like, interesting in music. I think mine was very strict for a while.”

“No, I’m just saying, the fact that whenever either one of us has an idea, we’re always gonna listen to each other and that was both romantically and in our working relationship,” Blanco explained. “You really will let me take liberties that might not always sound like the best idea in the moment, and you let me roll on that. And then it sometimes it still sucks, but then sometimes it also turns into something really good.”

The pair then agreed that the key to their partnership has been “communication.” The couple continued to perform a stripped rendition of “How Does It Feel to Be Forgotten” from a different room in the house. The pair also discussed “Scared of Loving You” and their experience creating the track.

“Your notes are always extremely generous and never dismissive… rather than saying, I want you to sound like something I simply can’t sound like, you’re really good at making sure that it sounds authentic,” Gomez explains. “You could easily say to me, ‘I feel like you could do a stronger verse.’ It doesn’t take me by surprise. It’s more of a challenge to make me better… You have an ear that I have, but I have my strengths, too.”

The short film is part of VEVO’s Extended Play series, filmed where the pair created the album as a whole. “We’re inviting fans into Selena and Benny’s home through this short film that includes exclusive, live renditions … from the very room that the songs were originally recorded,” said JP Evangelista, a VEVO executive. “From the organic conversations and performances, you can really feel the love and support between these two icons exude through the screen.”
