Dee said he underwent several operationduring his three week hospitalization with a near-fatal blood infection
Current Scorpions and former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee revealed that he’s recovering after spending most of the holiday season battling a “very serious blood infection (Sepsis).”
In a post on Facebook, Dee said he spent three weeks in a hospital in his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden, during which he underwent “several operations.” Thanking his doctors and nurses for their “excellent care,” Dee said he’s now back “home fighting this bastard bacteria” and that his “numbers are all going in the right direction.”
While Dee said he had a lot of “recovery and rehab” ahead, he was aiming to be “back on the drum stool” for Scorpions’ upcoming Las Vegas residency, which kicks off Feb. 27.
“We have a tremendous 2025 to look forward to, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and many exciting gigs around the world,” Dee said. “So, the Stinger is out and I can’t wait to see you all out there on the road and rock the hell out of you! I wish everybody a fantastic 2025 with good health and lots of Rock n’ Roll!”
Dee shared some more details about the experience in an interview with the Swedish outlet Aftonbladet (via Billboard), saying the medical emergency began with a sprained foot that quickly swelled and became infected.
“It was surgery right away, the first of three,” Dee said. “They cut away what was dead and infected and badly infested. It was not a good journey I was on… Another day and I’d be playing drums with [late Motörhead frontman] Lemmy in heaven. I can say that.”
Scorpions’ Vegas residency is scheduled to run Feb. 27 through March 11 at PH Live at Planet Hollywood. After that, they’ll kick off a world tour that starts with a run of dates in South America and continues with a summer trek of Europe.
