Samsung respond to Dua Lipa’s million lawsuit

Samsung have responded to the $15million lawsuit against them from Dua Lipa, rejecting the accusations.

The pop star filed the lawsuit against the electronic manufacturer earlier this month, claiming that they used her image without permission to sell TVs.

Her filing came in relation to the cardboard packaging of some of the brand’s TVs sold in 2025, which she alleged used a photograph of her without paying her or seeking her permission.

In the suit, her legal team claimed that she tried to get Samsung to stop using the image, but was faced with a “dismissive and callous” refusal from the company. They also quoted from some fan updates on X/Twitter, where some shared how they were considering buying the television after seeing the singer’s face on it.

“I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it,” one wrote, while someone else added: “I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.”

Her suit alleges a copyright violation, a violation of the California right of publicity statute, a federal Lanham Act claim, and trademark claims.

Now, Samsung has responded to the lawsuit and rejected the accusations from the ‘Dance The Night’ singer.

Sharing a statement, the company wrote: “The image of Dua Lipa was used in 2025 to display content from third-party partners available on Samsung TVs.

“Originally, the image was provided by a content partner for the free streaming service Samsung TV Plus. It was only used after the content partner had given explicit assurances that all necessary rights had been obtained – including use on sales packaging.”

It added that it has “great respect for Dua Lipa” and the intellectual property of artists. It also said that it was “open to a constructive solution” with the singer.

Dua Lipa’s team have not yet publicly responded to the comments from Samsung.

In other Dua Lipa news, the singer has recently curated the Southbank Centre’s 2026 London Literature Festival, caught fans off guard by making a surprise appearance at Tame Impala‘s headline gig at The O2 in London, and has been confirmed as part of the cast of a new A24 comedy Peaked.
