Sam Fender and Olivia Dean officially release ‘Rein Me In’ duet

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have officially released their duet version of ‘Rein Me In’. Check it out below.

The song originally featured on Fender’s third and latest studio album ‘People Watching’, which was released in February and landed the biggest UK opening week for a British act since Harry Styles‘ ‘Harry’s House‘. It also marked Fender’s biggest-ever opening week, selling more units than 2019’s debut ‘Hypersonic Missiles‘ and 2021’s ‘Seventeen Going Under‘ combined.

Since it was shared, the Geordie singer-songwriter has been putting a new spin on the song during his huge live show across the UK. The first of which took place at London Stadium earlier this month, when Fender brought Dean out to the 80,000-strong crowd and performed a collaborative rendition.

The two of them would then join forces twice more at shows to share the duet – both held at Fender’s huge homecoming shows at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park.

Now, a new version of the song featuring the BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominated British artist has officially been made available on streaming platforms. A new video has been shared too, featuring footage from Fender’s recent sell-out stadium run in London and Newcastle, shot by Daniel Broadley.

“If I collaborate with another artist on one of my songs, I prefer they write a new part and make it their own, rather than singing whatever I’ve already written,” Fender said. “Olivia added a female perspective to ‘Rein Me In’, and I think it’s all the better for it. Sharing the stage with her over these last few stadium shows has been a joy. I can’t wait for people to have it.”

Dean continued: “‘Rein Me In’ is my favourite song on Sam’s album, so it was a pleasure to write a new verse from a female perspective. I’ve been a fan of Sam’s for a while now, so I’m so pleased we got to work together on this duet.”

Check it out in the video above.

Oliva Dean wasn’t the only artist that Sam Fender brought on stage during his recent run of UK tour dates. At the gigs across London and Newcastle, he also brought out his former guitar teacher for a cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, as well as his brother Liam and CMAT for ‘Something Heavy’.

Other highlights from across Fender’s recent UK shows have included a huge homage to footballer Dan Burn at night one in Newcastle, following him helping Newcastle win their first major domestic trophy in seven decades this spring with their 2-1 win against Liverpool. As seen in fan footage of the gig, Burn was in attendance for that gig, and got to witness the crowd chanting his name firsthand.

Later this summer, Fender will play three big outdoor gigs in Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast, as well as top the bill at Ireland’s Electric Picnic. Find any remaining tickets for Fender’s UK and Ireland headline dates here.

As for Olivia Dean, the singer is set to share her second album, ‘The Art of Loving on September 26 via Capitol. Visit here to pre-order.
