Sabrina Carpenter loves that female pop star espresso. In a recent video interview with W Magazine, the 25-year-old singer opened up about whom she had heart eyes for as a child — and most of them are now her peers.
“Who did I have a crush on?” Carpenter says in a clip from the interview posted on TikTok Thursday (Sept. 5). “It’s funny, all of the posters on my wall were women. All my girl crushes were Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande.”
“I was, at that time, had Tiger Beat, and I was really making use of the posters,” she continues, referring to the teen pop culture magazine. “I would put those all over my wall.”
Flash forward a decade and some change, and Carpenter has opened for both Grande and Swift on their respective tours: the Dangerous Woman Tour in 2017 and the Eras Tour in 2024. The “Please Please Please” singer also got her start the same way Cyrus did via Hannah Montana, by finding fame on a Disney Channel show — Girl Meets World — and leveraging it into a pop-music career.
Carpenter also recently nabbed a feat that all three of her childhood girl crushes have previously achieved: a No. 1 album. The “Espresso” singer’s new LP, Short n’ Sweet, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart dated Sept. 7, narrowly beating out Travis Scott’s Days Before Rodeo.
Aside from Cyrus, Swift and Grande, Carpenter — who is now dating actor Barry Keoghan — also said she once had a thing for Zac Efron. “I had a really dangerous Zac Efron phase, when he was in Hairspray,” she told the publication. “I was 12 years old, and I was on a beach for the Fourth of July. He would never remember this, but I saw him and said, ‘I’m a big fan of your work!’ He gave me a hug. And I remember thinking, Oh my god—he wasn’t wearing a shirt and he gave me a hug! I was like, This is amazing. I’m never washing my body!”
