Sabrina Carpenter Performs ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ While Dressed as Sandy From ‘Grease’

Sabrina Carpenter celebrated Halloween at her Short n’ Sweet tour stop in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday (Oct. 31) and rocked not one, not two, but three different costumes.

In addition to dressing as a Playboy Bunny and Tinker Bell, Carpenter also rocked a black off-the-shoulder catsuit and curly blonde hair to channel Olivia Newton-John’s character Sandy Olsson in the beloved 1978 film, Grease. During the portion of the show where the 25-year-old pop star plays a “Spin the Bottle” game to choose a cover for her to sing, she fittingly ended up performing John’s “Hopelessly Devoted to You.”

In videos circulating social media, the entire crowd at the American Airlines Center sang along with Carpenter as she effortlessly belted the chorus. “But now there’s nowhere to hide/ Since you pushed my love aside/ I’m out of my head/ Hopelessly devoted to you,” she sang.

It’s hardly the first time Carpenter has taken on the classic Grease ballad, as she performed “Hopelessly Devoted to You” several times throughout her run as the opener on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Newton-John also starred alongside John Travolta in the blockbuster Grease, which was the top-grossing film of 1978. The film soundtrack spent 12 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for album of the year. “Hopelessly Devoted to You” received an Oscar nomination for best original song. In April 1979, Newton-John performed the song on the Oscar telecast.

Newton-John died in August 2022 at the age of 73 after a decades-long battle with breast cancer.
