They’ve all been eligible in prior years. (Chubby Checker has been eligible for the longest at 41 years.) This is the third nomination for Soundgarden, and the second for Oasis, Mariah Carey, Cyndi Lauper, White Stripes, and Joy Division/New Order.

The annual induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in the fall. A date for the ceremony has yet to be announced, but it typically takes place in October or November.

The unlikely combination of American Idol and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is sure to thrill Oasis’ Liam Gallagher, who recently declared, “RNR hall of fame is for WANKERS.” The musician also told The Sunday Times that the Rock Hall didn’t seem to reflect rock and roll.

“As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favor and fuck off,” he said. “It’s like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don’t want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed. Besides, I’ve done more for rock n’ roll than half of them clowns on that board, so it’s all a load of bollocks.”
