Robyn shares “very punk” new single ‘Blow My Mind’, in tribute to her son

Robyn has shared a new single, ‘Blow My Mind’, inspired by her young son. You can listen to it below.

The track serves as the fourth preview of the Swedish pop star’s ninth studio album, ‘Sexistential’, which is released on March 27 via Young. It follows the title track, and the songs ‘Talk To Me’ and ‘Dopamine’.

Produced by Klas Åhlund, Robyn’s latest offering is described as “a tricked-out redux” of ‘Blow My Mind’ from Robyn’s 2002 third LP, ‘Don’t Stop The Music’. The new take was written in tribute to the singer’s three-year-old child.

“‘Blow My Mind’ is the one song on the album about my son,” she explained of the hypnotic, raw, yet personal cut.

“I was in that early stage when I was with him all the time, and something about that closeness opened the song up to me again. Listening back to the original, I thought, ‘I think it’s one of the best songs I ever recorded, and I’m just gonna do it again’.”

Robyn continued: “I rewrote the lyrics and I love this version’s rawness. It’s not cute, because it’s not cute with children. They’re cute, but the experience isn’t. It’s very punk.”

The single features the lyrics: “Straight up from my heart, you’re my number one/ And hey, here’s the part, I’m still having fun/ It’s like you’re the cloud underneath my feet/ And you’re the reason that I breathe.”

Robyn previously described her ‘Sexistential’ title track as “possibly the world’s first rap about having one-night stands while 10 weeks pregnant after IVF”. In January, she delivered a sensual live rendition of the tune on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

When announcing the long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s ‘Honey’, the pop icon said: “Exploring my sensual life is the same feeling as when I make a good song.”

She added: “It’s such a beautiful kind of sensitive vibration that takes so much work to keep afloat. I feel like the purpose of my life is to stay horny – it doesn’t even have to be about sex, but it’s feeling sensual and attracted to things that I enjoy, and not letting anything take over that.”

Robyn will bring ‘Sexistential’ to the stage on her headline arena tour in the UK, Europe, North America and Australia this year. The UK leg includes a huge concert at London’s O2 in July. Visit here for UK tickets, here for Australian tickets, and here for North America.

The singer is also set to open for Harry Styles in Amsterdam this May as part of his ‘Together, Together’ tour.

In other news, Robyn has said she hated Elon Musk “way before it was cool”. She added: “For me, I started hating him when he put a Tesla into space with a David Bowie song on it.”
