Reneé Rapp on Tory Lanez being stabbed in prison: “Maybe we should be stabbing more”

Reneé Rapp has reacted to the news that Tory Lanez was stabbed whilst in prison.

The singer and Means Girls actor made the comments in a new interview with Ziwe, where she was asked how she felt about news that the rapper had been attacked while in prison.

Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) is currently serving 10 years in prison after being convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Last month, it was reported that he was attacked by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi; stabbed 14 times, with both of his lungs reportedly collapsing and him requiring a breathing apparatus.

“I feel like a lot of people get stabbed and that’s OK,” Rapp said in the interview. “Maybe we should be doing it more. Maybe we should be stabbing more […] Shiv in the pocket.”

Rapp’s stance comes following her making it clear that she is on Megan Thee Stallion’s side when it comes to the situation between her and Lanez. The two have both shared their praise for one another in recent years, and worked together on the soundtrack for the Mean Girls remake – creating the song ‘Not My Fault’.

“I am a true Meg supporter. And I hate that other man,” Rapp added. “So, I love Megan Thee Stallion. I love her. And if anybody tries her, when it comes to that sorry ass man, it’s a do-or-die fight for me.”

In the latest interview, Rapp also spoke about the news that Drake was among the names who had signed a petition which claimed that there was “no physical evidence Tory Lanez fired a gun” and urged authorities to reconsider his prison sentence.

“That’s so tired. I love Kendrick Lamar,” she said, making a nod towards the infamous 2024 beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

Last month, Megan Thee Stallion spoke out against claims made in the petition to overturn Lanez’s sentence. Taking to TikTok, she wrote: “At what point are yall gonna stop making me have to re-live being shot BY TORY !? At what point are Tory and yall FANS gonna stop lying?”

She added that “FACTS ARE FACTS” and that “it was PROVEN IN COURT” that Peterson shot her. Megan ended her post pleading with the Canadian rapper to leave her alone, calling him a “fucking demon.”

Before then, she issued a “final” response to the incident in 2023, where she reflected on the “humiliation” she faced from the public when coming forward with the claims and saying people treated her trauma “like a running joke”.

As well as Rapp, another person to speak out in her defence is SZA, who recently said she was “shocked” by the amount of harassment Megan has had around the incident.

“[Lanez was] convicted and jailed by the State of California,” she wrote: “The density !!!!! I’m actually SO shocked at the amount of ppl fully comfortable bullying a woman that’s proven to be a victim of assault.”

“Like out loud where other ppl can see you ??,” she continued. “Lmao u finna be stupid OUTLOUD?”
