Rema Announces Second Studio Album ‘Heis’ Alongside New Single ‘Hehehe’

The Nigerian musician will release the follow-up to his 2022 debut Rave & Roses, on July 11

Rema‘s first full-length studio album in two years is only days away. The Nigerian musician will follow up his 2022 debut Rave & Roses with Heis, set for release on Thursday, July 11. The record’s announcement arrives alongside the new single “Hehehe,” available now.

“Hehehe” captures Rema‘s diabolical laughter as he brushes his critics to the side. “Monday morning, talking about me while I’m making money/Hehe-hehe-hehe-hehe-he/I’m not gonna take it easy on my hater,” he says at the start of the track over production that sounds fit for a Joker scene in a Batman film.

The new single is the latest preview of Heis, though not the first. Nearly two weeks ago, Rema shared his first release of the year, “Benin Boys.” The record, which features Nigerian musician Shallipopio, will also appear on the album.

Rema has yet to reveal the full album tracklist or share insight into any additional collaborations that might appear on the record. Rave & Roses was scarce on the collaborative front, only featuring appearances from 6LACK, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey, and Yseult. Last year, Rema shared a deluxe edition of the album titled Rave & Roses Ultra, which included the hit single “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez.

“For the past years, I’ve been light and jovial. I’m quite intense this time,” Rema recently told Rolling Stone. “One thing that you will hear in the future is just the rawness and realness — how raw Afrobeats has been before the whole globalization, but in a new way. With everything going viral and everything just spreading across the world, I feel like it has also affected the sound. We’re not just making what the people at home would enjoy. We’re also making what we hope the world would also enjoy. I got rid of that mentality getting in the studio, like, ‘I’ll start with what I love. The rest of the world can catch up.’”
