RAYE’s 5 Things You Didn’t Know About “Genesis.”

RAYE shares five — well, technically six — things you didn’t know about “Genesis.,” including how many versions were made, how long it took to create and more!

RAYE:

Hi, I’m RAYE, and here are five things you didn’t know about my song “Genesis.” The first thing you didn’t know is probably that when we performed it at the Brits, the song was not done. It wasn’t even remotely done at all. And in fact, yeah, everyone was like, “Release it. Release it.” Because I really wanted to play it at the Brits, but it just wasn’t ready. And it continued to not be ready for several months. And as soon as it was ready, then we put it out. So it took me a long time to finish. The second thing you didn’t know about that song is it was originally just two parts. Third thing, it was written not with me in mind originally, and then I decided, actually, do you know what? I really love this song, and I really need to get this kind of emotion off my chest now. So we went with it as a RAYE song. The fourth thing you didn’t know about “Genesis.” is I re-recorded my vocals about 12 times in four different countries because I was so particular about how I wanted it to sound and feel. The fifth thing you maybe didn’t know about “Genesis.” is I wrote it on the road whilst I was on tour, so it took a long time, and I never put myself through such agony creating a song. It was really tricky, and I had to get to a point where I just said, stop now, because there was so many different versions, so many scrap verses, but I’m really proud of it. But once I put it out, also, actually, here’s another thing, once I put it out, I haven’t actually listened to it since we’ve put it out, except for playing it live. I was like, I’m done. It’s yours now. It’s not mine anymore. Hi, I’m RAYE and that was five things you didn’t know about “Genesis.” Six things you didn’t know about “Genesis.”! Thank you.
