Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin arrested and pepper sprayed after police stand-off

Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin has reportedly been arrested and pepper sprayed following a police stand-off.

According to TMZ, Scantlin was arrested at a traffic stop on Wednesday (July 31) due to a traffic violation, where police found the singer had an active warrant for a previous case related to possession of a weapon at an airport.

However, when Scantlin was commanded to get out of the car, he did not comply. Reports say that after a crisis negotiator and spray failed to coax him outside, a SWAT team was called at 4am to break the car window and shoot non-lethal pepper balls. Scantlin then apparently surrendered and exited his vehicle.

Scantlin reportedly went to hospital to have his eyes flushed from the pepper balls, but did not sustain any other injuries.

The frontman of the post-grunge band has since been booked for his outstanding warrant and a new charge for resisting arrest. He is now released and is due to appear in court on August 20. NME have reached out to Scantlin’s PR for comment.

Scantlin was previously arrested in 2017 for allegedly attempting to board a plane with a gun.

He was then arrested at LAX airport for having a BB gun while trying to board a flight to Keller, Texas, where the band were due to perform at the Bronson Rock venue. It is unclear whether Scantlin’s outstanding warrant is related to this specific case.

In other news, Wes Scantlin has admitted Puddle of Mudd’s infamous Nirvana cover “looked and sounded like total shit”.
