Placebo have announced the full release of their This Search For Meaning documentary. Check out the details below.
The release will be out on September 12 via SO Recordings, and will come as a new four-disc deluxe collection. Titled This Search For Meaning, the project will include the documentary of the same name on both Blu-ray and DVD, along with two audio CDs of ‘This Is What You Wanted – Live In Mexico City’.
Also included in the deluxe six-panel digipak is the bonus track edition of their latest studio album ‘Never Let Me Go’, which includes their cover of the Tears For Fears hit ‘Shout’, along with a pull-out poster booklet
The documentary was given a theatrical release last year, and was directed by Scottish award-winning filmmaker Oscar Sansom. In the footage, the film explores the ideas, lyrics and subject matter of Placebo’s discography, as well as charting their personal growth over the years.
As well as interviews with the members themselves, it also includes conversations with huge names, including Shirley Manson (Garbage), Robbie Williams, Yungblud, Rebecca Lucy Taylor (Self Esteem), Joe Talbot (IDLES), as well as actor Benedict Cumberbatch and contemporary artist Stuart Semple.
The film also sees archived footage of the band intertwined, along with exclusive, never-before-seen material, and their collaboration with David Bowie and his enduring influence.

As aforementioned, the release features their performance at Mexico City, which was held in 2023 at the Palacio de los Deportes as part of their ‘Never Let Me Go’ tour. Check out the track listing for that show below.

Last year, Placebo spoke at the premiere about how their all-star documentary movie paints an intricate insight into the band, and was driven by “the desire to break the form and to do something new”.
“[Sansom] pushed us to be daring and to be quite naked, and to put things in the film which were embarrassing and maybe a bit humiliating,” frontman Brian Molko said.
“But [he] gave us the courage to tell the most honest story that we could. It took a bit of courage, because there were some moments in the film which are extremely uncomfortable, and we could have sanitised it, but I think [he] really wanted to show us as human beings and we needed to discover ourselves through watching all of this.”
He continued: “It also gave us a bigger understanding of who we are and a better understanding of the past 30 years. You need to get a bit of distance to it. When you’re in it, you don’t know what’s going on.”
