PJ Harvey shares new track ‘Holloway’ from ‘London Tide’ play soundtrack

The official recording of PJ Harvey’s London Tide soundtrack is being released later this year, with the first song ‘Holloway’ available to stream now – check it out exclusively via NME below.

London Tide is based on the Charles Dickens novel Our Mutual Friend and was adapted for stage by Ben Power. For the project, Power worked with Harvey to create 13 original songs that were performed by the cast of the play.

London Tide, a romantic and propulsive thriller, premiered earlier this year at London’s Lyttelton Theatre, running between April and June. “Across the city, two young women confront an uncertain future. In Limehouse, Lizzie Hexam struggles to break free of the river and its dark secrets. On the other side of town, Bella Wilfer mourns a lost marriage. The appearance of the mysterious John Rokesmith has the potential to change their lives for ever. Will they sink or swim?” reads the official synopsis.

Now, Broadway Records are set to release an official cast recording. The entire album will be released later this year but the first track ‘Holloway’ is available to stream today. Written by Harvey and Power, ‘Holloway’ was performed by actor Bella Maclean, who plays Bella, alongside the London Tide Ensemble and National Theatre. Check it out below.

Last year, PJ Harvey released a new concert film – Live From L’Olympia in Paris was filmed while she toured in support of 2023’s ‘I Inside The Old Year Dying’. Earlier in 2024, Harvey started her Glastonbury set with a seven-minute silence led by visual artist Marina Abramović.

“We are really facing a dark moment in human history. So what can be done? I always think protest brings more protest; hate brings more hate. I think it’s important to turn to your own self. It’s easy to criticise everything else but what can I do in my own self, how can I change?” said Abramović of the “public intervention”.
