PinkPantheress Is Back in Her Mixtape Era With ‘Fancy That’ Track List Reveal

PinkPantheress‘ debut mixtape, To Hell With It, was a snapshot of a moment in time for the musician. She was 20 years old when it arrived in 2021 amidst the storm of her first taste of virality, with famously brief cuts like “Pain” and “Just for Me” dominating TikTok. When her debut album Heaven Knows arrived two years later, the Ice Spice-assisted “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2″ transcended the boundaries of the internet and became a certified hit. Now, PinkPantheress is channelling the best of both with her forthcoming mixtape Fancy That, out May 9.

PinkPantheress revealed the track list for Fancy That on Sunday, April 6, in a promise to a fan on X who wanted to know if “Romeo,” a song she teased early last year, would be included. It’s the final song listed on the project. Fancy That will also feature the newly-released single “Tonight,” which samples Panic! at the Disco’s “Do You Know What I’m Seeing?” from their second album Pretty. Odd. Sampling has been foundational for PinkPantheress, who recently teased an unreleased song that samples Basement Jaxx’s 2001 single “Romeo.”

“Sampling is funny because everyone has their opinions about it. Some people think it’s stealing or unoriginal, which is something I dealt with a lot when I was starting,” the musician told MixMag in a recent interview. “But for me sampling is my way of sharing a love for something and reinterpreting it. I would only sample something I love, I would never sample something for the thought of it having nostalgia-bait or whatever reason. I do it because I want to reinterpret something I love to different audiences.”

Teasing Fancy That, PinkPantheress also revealed plans to include nods to “real fans” on the mixtape, including call backs to Just Jack’s “Starz In Their Eyes,” which she sampled on “Attracted to You” in 2021. “I’m putting everything into this era because I love the music so much,” she shared on Instagram. “Truly my proudest work.”

“If people listen to just my bigger songs and less of my deep cuts they think I’m less experimental than I actually am,” PinkPantheress told MixMag. “However, on the other side, I never go too experimental. I’m very structured and I tend to stick to what I know a lot of the time. You know, for example, people tell me to make longer songs and I’m not against the idea but for me it’s about making it make sense for me.”

She added, “I go in with an idea of what I want. I’m someone that has OCD, and when I go against something that I have set in my brain on sometimes it feels like the world is going to end. It’s something I have to figure out as I make more music, because I struggle to break out of a vision.”
