Peso Pluma Gets Surgery After Breaking Foot at Gov Ball: ‘I’ll Be Back on Stages Soon’

After breaking his foot during his headlining set at New York City’s Governors Ball last week, Peso Pluma shared an assuring update with fans.

“My people, they already did my surgery,” he wrote on Instagram’s broadcast channel. “Everything came out really good! I’ll be back on stages soon,” Peso added, before signing off: “LOS AMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.”

“I can’t even barely stand, but I don’t give a fuck,” the Mexican star told the audience while dancing on stage at the festival. He later confirmed the injury in an Instagram post, sharing a series of photos from his performance, including some that showed his taped-up foot as he continued performing. “broken foot ? IDGAF! … THANKS NEW YORK. YALL ENERGY WAS INSANE !  LOS AMOOOOOO!,” he wrote at the time.

Peso ended with a quote from Michael Jordan: “It’s about knowing where you’re going, not forgetting where you started. It’s about having the courage to fail. Not breaking when you’re broken.”

Last month, Peso revealed the cover artwork and track list for his upcoming album, Éxodo, out June 20. The project’s release will be followed by a tour that will run through October.

Peso featured on the cover of Rolling Stone‘s Future of Music issue in March, and described Éxodo as a “more of a direct response to the negative press that seems to surround him.”

“[On Génesis] people already saw the good side, the superhero side. But I think this year, they’re going to know a darker side,” said Peso. “There’s going to be a lot of things about why we do what we do, and why we sing what we do, why people pit us against each other, why media always look for bad things, why people focus more on the negatives than the positives.”

“There’s going to be a lot of flavors, not only of regional Mexican music,” he continued. “From the beginning, I’ve liked doing things to get out of my comfort zone. I know everything goes great with corridos, but I also don’t pass up opportunities to do other stuff I like.”
