Pendulum’s Ben Verse shares health update about 200 days in hospital

Ben ‘The Verse’ Mount has shared a health update after being hospitalised for over 200 days – see what he had to say below.

Last month, the former Pendulum emcee’s recent cancer diagnosis was brought to light after a fundraiser was launched to relieve the financial burden of his treatment. Mount had been diagnosed with acute monoblastic leukaemia four months prior.

During this time, Mount had been hospitalised for over 200 consecutive days. In the fundraiser page, Mount’s brother Jeremy shared that Ben was first hospitalised last August and suspected to have tuberculosis. This was later discovered to be a “rapidly-growing, antibiotic evasive/resistant” superbug which created an abscess in his lung.

He was admitted to hospital again and placed in an induced coma for six weeks and it was doubtful at times whether or not he would survive.

Earlier this week (February 17), Ben Mount took to Instagram to share an update on his health and hospitalisation. Taken while in bed, Mount revealed: “They finally let me out of hospital 208 days later. I’m feeling pretty beat down, but it’s nice to be home.”

He continued in his update: “Tomorrow, the nurses are going to come to my house and I’ll start 21 days of chemo injections, which I’m hoping will be the last chemo that I have to have. If I can get the all clear, I can get on with my life. I just wanted to say that it means a hell of a lot, everyone who’s messaged me and continues to message me every day.”

Touching on the fundraiser – which has currently raised £61,725, surpassing its initial £20,000 target – Mount said: “Anyone who has donated has made a massive difference, and I can’t thank you enough from me and my family. I love you all.”

Ben ‘The Verse’ Mount had been a longtime member of Pendulum, first joining the Australian drum n’ bass band as their touring emcee in 2006. In 2010, he made his official recording debut with the band, and amicably parted ways with Pendulum in early 2018 to focus on his own career.

Pendulum are due to return to the UK for a collection of massive shows that will see them perform in Margate, Plymouth, Halifax, Scarborough, and their biggest-ever show to date at Milton Keynes – you can get tickets to the shows, which will run between May and August, here.

Last year, Pendulum’s set was named one of NME’s Most Magical Moments of Reading & Leeds 2024. Shortly before their appearance at the iconic dual-festival, frontman Rob Swire spoke to NME about their recent comeback single ‘Napalm’, which featured Joey Valance and Brae.

Recalling how it signals what is yet to come from the band, he said: “I want to take it much heavier. I know drum ‘n’ bass is having a moment again and we keep getting every Tom, Dick and Harry across our entire work team being like, ‘You guys have to get in on this and start making some DnB that fits in Hedex’s set’, but it’s just the last thing I want to fucking do.

“I feel most comfortable when we’re in between worlds. As soon as it goes too metal or too DnB, then I start to feel weird about it. The middle of that ground is the perfect zone for us. I want to take it much heavier if we can.”
