Sharon Osbourne has opened up about the “biggest mistake” of turning down a film audition for her husband Ozzy Osbourne.
Sharon – who is the Prince of Darkness’ wife and manager – appeared as the latest guest on Billy Corgan‘s The Magnificent Others podcast. While speaking to the iconic Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Sharon asked him if he wanted to know “The biggest mistake I ever made for Ozzy” to which he responded: “Of course! You’re going to admit to a mistake?”
She then shared: “He got offered to go and read for Pirates Of The Caribbean, and I’ve never said this to anyone, and I said no. Now wouldn’t he have been perfect?” Corgan replied with: “He would have been perfect! Maybe it’s not too late, but God bless.”
The Pirates Of The Caribbean film series follows the adventures of the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow – portrayed by Johnny Depp, joined by Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally), as well as Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).
The series was based on the original Disneyland attraction of the same name. The series is comprised of five films which were released between 2003 through 2017 and made $4.524 billion in box office revenue.
Two of the most notable rockstars to have appeared in the franchise are The Rolling Stones‘ Keith Richards and Sir Paul McCartney. Richards portrayed the role of Jack Sparrow’s father Captain Teague in Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Macca portrayed the role of Jack Sparrow’s uncle, Uncle Jack in the film Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. In his cameo, the Beatle is seen in a jail cell singing ‘Maggie Mae’ – a traditional Liverpudlian folk song – to the crew.
Elsewhere, Sharon recently spoke to NME about Black Sabbath’s final gig – which will take place on July 5 in Birmingham – and opened up about the possibility of a biopic about the iconic metal band.
Speaking about who would portray the band in a potential biopic, Sharon said: “God only knows! If it were to happen, I don’t know well-known actors would be good to do it. With these characters, you’d need to get somebody new. You can get these phenomenal actors: if you got Johnny Depp playing Ozzy, all you’d see in the movie is Johnny Depp. It has to be somebody faceless at that time.”
In other news, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Tool, Jason Momoa and Rival Sons were recently added to the bill at Black Sabbath‘s final reunion gig.
