‘Outer Banks’ Star Jonathan Daviss to Play Snoop Dogg in Biopic

Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss has been tapped to play Snoop Dogg in an upcoming biopic from director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Coming 2 America). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brewer is currently working on revising the script previously written by Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) that tells the story of Calvin Broadus Jr.’s rise to fame as West Coast rap legend Snoop Dogg.

The movie is being co-produced by Snoop, as well as Brian Grazer (Music By John Williams) and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ranmaker in the first project of Death Row Pictures’ deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios.

Nashville native Daviss, 25, made his debut in 2014 in the movie Deliverance Creek and has since appeared in films including Netflix’s 2022 comedy Do Revenge in addition to playing Pope Heyward on the streamer’s long-running teen drama Outer Banks.

The rapper was clearly psyched to finally share the news on Monday (June 9), reposting the Deadline article that broke the story on his Instagram feed with the message, “Let’s go nefew!! [fist pound, bicep flex, music, film emoji] it’s time [prayer hands, checkmark emoji].” Daviss also posted the Deadline story with the on-brand caption “Bow wow wow” along with a snap of him leaning on a dog house near a mural of the cover from Snoop’s 1993 debut solo album, Doggystyle.

Death Row Pictures also got in on the action, uploading a snap of Daviss walking the red carpet at the 2025 BET Awards on Monday night with Snoop and his wife, Shante Broadus, who made the scene in matching deep blue suits at the show where Snoop took home the Ultimate Icon award.
