Orignal Unleashed guitarist Fredrik Lindgren dies aged 53

Fredrik Lindgren, the original guitarist for the Swedish death metal band Unleashed, has died at the age of 53.

The announcement of the musician’s passing was confirmed by Unleashed themselves in a post shared on their official Facebook page. “Warriors!!! Sadly, the news have reached us that Fredrik Lindgren, lead guitar of Unleashed 1989-1995 has passed away,” began the post.

It continued: “Fredrik was a huge part of the early history of the band. For this we are eternally grateful. See you in Valhalla brother! Johnny & The Boys.”

Lindgren also played the guitar for other bands including Terra Firma and Harms Way. Terra Firma’s frontman and Lindgren’s former bandmate  Lord Chritus – Christian Lindersson – shared a tribute to the guitarist on his official Facebook page.

“In loving memory of Freddie Eugene 1971-2025. Numbed by the news of your passing, Fredrik my old friend. Hard to put emotions into words. Just hope you have found your peace as you deserve no less.,” he wrote. “You will not only be missed by me but many, I know this much. Thank you for being a part of my life and colored it with your friendship and musicianship both embodied in what was Terra Firma. We had some really great times and that will never change. All my love.”

The guitarist co-founded Unleashed in 1989 and played across the first four of their studio LP’s – 1991’s ‘Where No Life Dwells’, 1992’s ‘Shadows In The Deep’, 1993’s ‘Across The Open Sea’ and 1995’s ‘Victory’. He is also heard on Unleashed’s live albums ‘Live In Vienna ’93’ and ‘Eastern Blood – Hail To Poland’.

Following his departure from the group, Lindgren went on to join various other Swedish groups including the likes of Atlantic Tide, Loud Pipes, Celestial Pain, Born Of Fire, Harms Way and Terra Firma.
