One Direction’s Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson reuniting for Netflix documentary series

One Direction’s Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are set to reunite for a new Netflix documentary series.

As reported by Rolling Stone, a three-part series will follow the former bandmates as they go on a “spontaneous adventure” across the United States, offering viewers a “rare look” at their lives as they reconnect as friends.

The show has not yet been named, but it will be directed by Nicola Marsh, who has worked on Netflix version of Song Exploder, and produced by Campfire Studios (Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders). It is expected to drop in 2026.

A press release states that the series will see Malik and Tomlinson “opening up about life, love, loss and friendship.” It comes after Tomlinson made an appearance during Malik’s show in Los Angeles in January, their first public reunion since Liam Payne’s funeral last November.

Earlier this week, Tomlinson announced his third studio album ‘How Did I Get Here?’, which will be released on January 23 and you can pre-order here. He has also shared the lead single, the funk-influenced ‘Lemonade’.

Tomlinson has said it is “the record I always deserved to make’”, adding: “My bread and butter is the honesty. I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve, and I hope it comes through in the music. I’m still learning and getting better as a singer and a songwriter. I find it impossible to be complacent; it’s not in my vocabulary. For the first time now, I’m allowing myself to be the artist I’d always hoped to be.”

He has also announced a 2026 arena tour which will see him play around the UK and Europe next year, kicking off in Hamburg on March 23 and including dates in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Dublin, Brighton and London. You can see all the dates here, while tickets go on general sale on October 10 here.

Malik, meanwhile, has announced a Las Vegas residency for 2026. He will play seven nights at the Dolby Live at Park MGM in January, only his second run of shows since leaving One Direction in 2015. He previously played the ‘Stairway To The Sky’ tour in November 2024, which saw him project a tribute to the late Liam Payne on the screen behind him.

The Vegas shows are described as “only the beginning of what will be a massive year for Zayn” – you can see all the information here and find tickets here.

One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus in January 2016 following the release of their fifth album ‘Made In The AM’. Liam Payne passed away in October 2024 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
