Olivia Rodrigo shares her “favourite” new song ‘The Cure’

Olivia Rodrigo has dropped new single ‘The Cure’, which she describes as her “favourite” track from upcoming album, ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’. Check it out below.

The new record is the follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2021 debut album ‘Sour’ and the highly-praised 2023 follow-up, ‘Guts’. It is set for release June 12, and already Rodrigo has described it as “experimental” and full of “sad love songs”, and also dropped the lead single ‘Drop Dead’.

Now, after teasing a new single on social media earlier this week, the ‘Deja Vu’ singer has released another preview of the LP in the form of heartfelt track ‘The Cure’.

Centred around a melancholic acoustic guitar melody, the single tackles themes of doubt, loss of trust and putting your faith into the wrong person. “All the nights I spend fighting bad thoughts in my room/ Feeling so alone, might as well be on the moon/ I thought I found the antidote with you,” she sings in the lovelorn verse.

Gradually, the song builds up to the anguish-ridden chorus: “But my head is full of poison/ And my heart is full of doubt/ I got toxins in my bloodstream/ You tried hard to suck them out/ And it feels like medication/ And it’s good for me I’m sure/ But it don’t matter how your love feels anymore/ It’ll never be the cure.”

Teasing the track on social media, Rodrigo revealed that she considers the single to be her “favourite on the album” and “one of my favourite songs I’ve ever made”. Check it out below, alongside a new video that sees the singer in search to find the antidote for a broken heart.

While ‘The Cure’ is the second official single to be shared from the upcoming third album, Rodrigo has also held an intimate, phone-free show in LA, where she shared a taste of another new track, ‘Begged’, which features Weyes Blood, and played it again on SNL.

The singer has also confirmed that the record will be centred around the feelings of “jealousy” and “longing” that arose from her first “big girl relationship”, and cited The Cure, New Order, Joy Division, The White Stripes and Bikini Kill as sources of inspiration.

She has spoken extensively about her love of The Cure over the years, and even brought frontman Robert Smith out as a special guest during her unforgettable Pyramid Stage headline set at Glastonbury 2025.

As for new music, Smith confirmed earlier this year that he had been in the studio with Rodrigo lately and shared his admiration for her work, and Rodrigo shared shortly afterwards that she played him “a bunch” of her upcoming material – but not the lead single in which she makes a nod to his song ‘Just Like Heaven’.

The pop star announced a huge ‘Unraveled Tour’ earlier this month, which will see her joined by Wolf Alice, The Last Dinner Party, Devon Again, Die Spitz, and Grace Ives. Dates include multiple stops at The O2 in London, where more shows have been added due to huge demand. Visit here for UK tickets and here for international tickets.
