Oklou shares her what she listens to before her shows in exclusive playlist to accompany The Cover

NME’s latest star of The Cover, Oklou, has compiled an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The French electronic pop artist is on this week’s (March 10) edition of The Cover, a weekly manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Oklou here, written by Jasmine Kent-Smith and featuring photography by Furmaan Ahmed.

To accompany The Cover, Oklou has put together an exclusive playlist for NME, sharing the songs on her pre-show playlist for her ‘Choke Enough’ tour. Her wide-ranging selections include tracks from Sade, Addison Rae, Jon Hopkins, Erika de Casier, and many more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

In The Cover, Oklou dives into her debut album ‘Choke Enough’ and how her experiences with and perspective of love have shifted how she writes her songs. “After what I’ve experienced – and after having thought about love so much, and questioning the way I’m built for that – I couldn’t make music in the same way,” she explains.

The star – real name Marylou Mayniel – also talks about her love of pop music, from growing up to her reverence of it now. “I was really into [pop] because of what it created with the other kids,” she remembers. “The fact we were all singing together, getting excited; the parties where everybody knew the words, this feeling of togetherness.”
