The band kicked off the first of two nights in Buenos Aires’s Estadio Mâs Monumental last night (November 16), and took the opportunity to honour the late Argentinian football icon, who died in 2020 aged 60.

During ‘Live Forever’, the band displayed an image of Maradona on the screen behind them, before Liam dedicated ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ to him, telling the crowd: “This next one’s for Diego Maradona.”

Earlier in the day, Noel also paid a visit to Maradona’s former club, Boca Juniors, and took photos of the sporting legend’s statue.

See the moment below.

The band have a history with Maradona, who threatened to shoot Liam and Noel when they met him in a bar in Argentina.

Paying tribute to Maradona after his death, Liam wrote on Twitter: “Proper Rock n Roll footballer no fucker will ever come near him LG x.”

He added: “Met maradonna not once but 2x and he was the real fucking deal scary but beautiful hash tag blessed.”

Since Oasis began their reunion tour, they’ve used the gigs to pay tribute to other icons who have passed. For instance, the tour’s opening night in Cardiff saw them honour late Liverpool star Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car crash days earlier at just 28 years old. At the gig, Oasis displayed an image of Diogo Jota in his jersey onscreen as they performed ‘Live Forever’.

They also paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne back in July – projecting a huge portrait of the late musician during ‘Live Forever’, before Liam told the 81,000-strong crowd they would be dedicating the next song to “Ozzy Osbourne, Rock ‘N’ Roll Star” and launching into the 1994 track.

Then, in September, they honoured late boxing star Ricky Hatton during their show at Wembley Stadium, also dedicating ‘Live Forever’ to him.

Oasis will play another show in Argentina tonight (November 16), before heading to Santiago, Chile, on November 19 and then concluding with two gigs in São Paulo on November 22 and 23.

These shows will see Bonehead rejoining them after the guitarist, real name Paul Arthurs, took a break from the tour to continue his cancer treatment.

He was given the all-clear from tonsil cancer back in 2022, but shared at the start of October that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year, and would sit out of Oasis’ Asia and Australia shows so he could have “the next phase of care”.

During the most recent run of shows, the band performed with an honorary cut-out of Bonehead and, in his absence, Mike Moore from Liam’s solo band filled in.

In other news, Liam has been teasing more Oasis reunion shows, but has suggested that they may not be in 2026.
