Noah Cyrus Rides Into Nature’s Depths in ‘I Saw the Mountains’ Video

New single follows “Don’t Put It All on Me,” her collaboration with Fleet Foxes

Noah Cyrus feels connected to nature. On Friday, the musician released the cinematic video for “I Saw the Mountains,” delivering a gorgeous visual for her ultra-emotional, alt-country single.

The stunning Rudy Grazziani- and Navs-directed video captures Cyrus riding a beautiful white horse through an empty field. Dressed in all black, Cyrus walks beside her horse in some scenes and poses pensively by a tree as she reflects on the lyrics.

“I saw the mountains/and they saw me/I stood in the ground/with the redwood trees,” she sings in the first verse. “The deer and the coyote/slept at my feet.”

In some clips, Cyrus wades into a dark river as she sings about her and the body of water carrying “each other/back out to the sea/back to the mother.” As Cyrus starts to sing about hope at the end of the song, she drinks from a puddle of water before psychedelic, black-and-white clips show a horse frolicking in water. “When you feel alone in the dark/yeah, I am wherever you are,” she sings. “Circling around the same star/Yeah, I am wherever you are.”

The new single is set to be featured on Cyrus’ upcoming sophomore album and follows her collaboration with Fleet Foxes, also on the upcoming project, “Don’t Put It All on Me.” The album will be her first since 2022’s The Hardest Part.

“We all want to connect with our past while also being aware of the present moment. Music does that for me, and this new collection of songs was made with that in mind,” Cyrus said in a press release. “I want to evoke that feeling of a comforting friend— and allow us all to heal.”
